About MOTS-c.
MOTS-c (Mitochondrial Open Reading frame of the Twelve S rRNA-c) is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded in the mitochondrial genome itself. Discovered in 2015, it acts as a metabolic regulator and is sometimes described as an 'exercise mimetic'.
Plasma MOTS-c declines with age and is reduced in insulin-resistant patients. Pre-clinical models show striking effects on metabolic health and physical performance.
MOTS-c activates AMPK in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, mimicking many of the cellular consequences of exercise. It improves insulin sensitivity via the folate-cycle / AICAR-AMPK axis and modulates expression of nuclear genes involved in metabolic stress.
Subcutaneous injection, typically 5–10 mg per dose, 2–3 times per week.
